Artist John Black gives fans an idea of what Avengers: Endgame would have looked like if it was done in the style of Marvel comics. Avengers: Endgame was the massively successful conclusion to the Infinity Saga. It united all of the MCU heroes once again, some for what would be the last time. Unfortunately, it wasn’t without loss, as Black Widow and Iron Man both sacrificed themselves to restore the world. This set up the next two phases of the MCU, which will feature sequel films for returning characters, while also introducing new ones.

The Avengers: Endgame poster is one of the most iconic in the Marvel Universe, with the original six Avengers all featured prominently. Naturally, fans have had a lot of fun with it since the initial poster was debuted. One fan recently celebrated the one-year-anniversary of the film’s release with a version highlighting Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor. Another created one featuring actors who nearly played key characters in the MCU and imagined what could have been. Even The Simpsons had a good time with the Avengers: Endgame poster earlier this year, releasing an altered version featuring characters from the show.

Luckily, it seems creatives aren’t quite done with the poster. Artist John Black recently shared his take on the Avengers: Endgame poster, recreating it in the style of classic Marvel comics. All of the characters sport a look seen in the comics, including their costumes. Black also shared a side-by-side comparison of his poster vs. the original. Check it out below:

The anniversary of Avengers: Endgame has not only inspired fan artists, but also those who worked on the movie. Recently, the film’s directors, Joe and Anthony Russo, participated in a watch party for the movie where they revealed some behind-the-scenes details. The Russos also shared a few new set videos and images, including ones showing Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans’ last days as Iron Man and Captain America. All told, Avengers: Endgame still means as much to fans now as it did a year ago.

The level of detail in Black’s poster is impressive, and Marvel comics fans should enjoy locating each character and comparing it to its MCU counterpart. It’s also an interesting reminder of which character’s costumes were altered the most for screen and which are the most faithful to the comics. For example, Okoye and Iron Man’s costumes are pretty comic-accurate, while Thor and Captain Marvel’s are fairly different. This is especially true considering Thor’s large helmet doesn’t make an appearance on the poster. Black’s Avengers: Endgame recreation shows a respect for Marvel’s past, while also appreciating the MCU for what it is.
