Newly revealed concept art from Avengers: Infinity War shows a close up look at Vision’s emotional death. As the final two films in the MCU’s Infinity Saga, both Infinity War and its follow-up, Avengers: Endgame, saw the deaths of many important characters. In addition to Vision, Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Gamora died in the first movie, as did Loki. Then, in Endgame, original Avengers Iron Man and Black Widow sacrificed themselves in order to restore those who were snapped by Thanos. All told, the final two films made for a bittersweet conclusion to the first wave of the MCU.
Vision’s death is one of the more surprising moments in Avengers: Infinity War. At first, it seems Vision’s partner Scarlet Witch will save the day by destroying Vision and the Mind Stone that keeps him alive. However, Thanos ultimately uses the Time Stone to briefly resuscitate Vision, before taking the Mind Stone and killing him again. Despite his death in the MCU, Vision will return in December for WandaVision, the upcoming Disney+ show also featuring Elizabeth Olsen. It’s unclear how exactly he’s able to appear, but it seems likely Scarlet Witch’s powers will play a role.
Now, Marvel Studios Head of Visual Development Ryan Meinerding reveals an up close look at Vision’s death scene in Avengers: Infinity War. In photos shared to Instagram, it’s easy to see where the Mind Stone was ripped out by Thanos on Vision’s forehead. Check out Meinerding’s images below:
The MCU, including its upcoming Disney+ shows, is at a rocky point right now due to the coronavirus pandemic. Marvel had to postpone the upcoming release of Black Widow, which could have a long lasting impact on scheduling. As WandaVision and the other series are expected to directly tie in with the Marvel movies, further changes to the schedule could mean the Disney+ shows may have to move around as well. It doesn’t help that WandaVision had to shut down production due to the coronairus, as have Loki and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. However, Marvel is far from the only company dealing with these sorts of issues right now.
Concept art reveals are becoming more common, especially from Marvel and DC. As most are cooped up at home right now due to the coronavirus, even more images have made their way online in the last couple weeks. It’s interesting to see such a detailed look at Vision’s death and the aftermath of Thanos’ Mind Stone retrieval. However, the scene from Avengers: Infinity War will likely become an even bigger point of discussion once fans find out how Vision returns in WandaVision.
