Filmmaker Len Wiseman is set to direct the female-led John Wick spinoff, Ballerina.
According to Deadline, the film will follow a young female assassin who seeks revenge against the people who killed her family. Shay Hatten, who penned the script for John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum, is writing the script, which was fast-tracked by Lionsgate earlier this year. John Wick himself Keanu Reeves will produce.
Ballerina will revolve around one of the young female assassins who was shown being trained as a ballerina by The Director (Angelica Huston) in a key sequence early on during Parabellum. The project is reported to be on the fast-track for development, and already has both a screenplay and director in place.
The announcement comes a few months after Lionsgate announced the fourth John Wick film. John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum opened in theaters this past summer, earning $171 million domestically and $323.4 million worldwide, making it the highest grossing film in the franchise.
Directed by Chad Stahelski, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum stars Keanu Reeves, Ian McShane, Laurence Fishburne, Halle Berry, Jason Mantzoukas, Lance Reddick and Anjelica Huston.
