According to The Batman‘s official cast list, Peter Sarsgaard is NOT playing Harvey Dent aka. Two-Face in the upcoming DC Extended Universe movie.
Director Matt Reeves took to Twitter yesterday to confirm The Batman has now officially started filming. In reality, of course, production has been underway for a few weeks, as evidenced by the various set photos that’ve leaked online. That aside, Warner Bros. released an official cast list for The Batman in conjunction with Reeves’ announcement (via Business Wire), confirming Sarsgaard is playing Gotham D.A. Gil Colson in the film.
Although it’s certainly possible “Gil Colson” is a fake character and Sarsgaard is really playing Harvey Dent, that seems unlikely for the moment. The Batman cast list lines up with everything that’s been reported so far, including Zoë Kravitz playing Catwoman, Paul Dano playing The Riddler, and Colin Farrell co-starring as The Penguin. In other words, there doesn’t appear to be any benefit to hiding the fact Two-Face is in this movie, considering how many other Batman rogues have already been confirmed. That said, it’s possible “Gil Colson” is basically a version of the Harvey Dent character who’s been given a different name, similar to how Dano is playing Edward Nashton, not Nygma (which is traditionally The Riddler’s real last name). Alternatively, Mr. Colson could turn out to be the unlucky guy who held the position of Gotham’s D.A. before Dent made his way up the ranks.

In The Batman, Robert Pattinson (Tenet, The Lighthouse) steps into the role of Bruce Wayne during his early days as Batman. The cast also includes Zoë Kravitz (Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, Mad Max: Fury Road) as Selina Kyle; Paul Dano (Love & Mercy, 12 Years a Slave) as Edward Nashton; Jeffrey Wright (the Hunger Games films) as the GCPD’s James Gordon; John Turturro (the Transformers films) as Carmine Falcone; Jayme Lawson (Farewell Amor) as mayoral candidate Bella Reál; with Andy Serkis (the Planet of the Apes films, Black Panther) as Alfred; and Colin Farrell (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Dumbo) as Oswald Cobblepot.
The Batman opens in theaters on June 25, 2021.
