Charlize Theron as Thor
Charlize Theron as Thor

Charlize Theron becomes Thor in this excellent The Old Guard parody poster, titled The Old Asgard. Theron has become something of an action icon in recent years, ever since she first played the fierce Imperator Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road. Theron helped turn Furiosa into one of the best female characters in cinema in recent memory, and the fact that she won’t return for the upcoming Furiosa prequel disappoints fans just as much as is does Theron herself. Since then, Theron has also starred in the spy flick Atomic Blonde, and she’s returned to action movies with The Old Guard.

Based on the graphic novel by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernandez, The Old Guard follows a band of immortal mercenaries who must protect each other when their exposed secret threatens to put them all in danger. Theron plays Andy, the team’s leader who also acts as a mentor for new recruit Nile (Kiki Layne). The pic was directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and debuted on Netflix this weekend to generally positive reviews.

It didn’t take long for fans to twist the film’s title around with some clever wordplay, as seen in this poster from Bosslogic. Instead of Andy, Theron is now the Goddess of Thunder in the imaginary poster for The Old Asgard. Don’t worry, though: Chris Hemsworth’s Thor still lingers in the background. Check it out for yourself in the space below.

Theron could easily play the Mighty Thor, who in the comics is actually Jane Foster. That iteration of Thor will be depicted in the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder, Hemsworth’s fourth solo outing that is currently scheduled for February 2022. Natalie Portman will reprise her role as Jane for the first time since 2013’s Thor: The Dark World (not including a wordless cameo in Avengers: Endgame). It’s unclear if that film will follow the beloved comics run by Jason Aaron, but it’s safe to say that expectations are already pretty high.

Sadly, though, this means Theron won’t be playing a female Thor any time soon. In fact, Theron recently admitted she’s never been invited to star in a Marvel movie. While that seems like some major oversight on Marvel’s part, Theron is clearly doing alright in the action department without their help. A sequel to Atomic Blonde is currently in development, and there are clear hopes for a sequel to The Old Guard as well. And with The Old Guard, Theron has already played something of a superhero. She would definitely be an awesome addition to the MCU, but she’s already a formidable action star on her own, even without the lightning.
