David Leitch is hoping that he’ll get to continue working on his vision for the Deadpool franchise in the MCU. A third installment has been expected for the film series, but with Disney’s acquisition of Fox’s TV and movie assets, everyone’s waiting to hear official word about what will happen to the Merc-with-a-Mouth – apparently, including the filmmaker.

“I don’t, honestly. And it’s not for my lack of trying,” Leitch told Uproxx upon being asked if he had any idea what Marvel Studios’ plan for Deadpool could be going forward. “And I also want to give – I’m just giving everybody their time.

“I know Marvel announced their slate and I think people were like, ‘Deadpool’s not on it.’ I would never say never,” he continued, “And I think, obviously, he’s such a beloved character and it’s such a compelling world people want to go back. And I think they will find a way to do it. But I’m just being patient and let everybody take a breath and see how it works for them in the new Marvel, Disney world. And, hopefully, I’ll get the call. And that would be cool.”

“I’m sure there are people who want it more than me, but it would be hard-pressed to find them. I love that world. I love working with Ryan. I love that character, Deadpool. So, fingers crossed we get to bring another installment to life.”

Leitch is right, however, just because Fiege didn’t lay out their plans for their newly-acquired characters during SDCC, that doesn’t mean that no plans for them whatsoever. The Marvel Studios boss himself did say that they had Phase 5 planned out but opted to hold back in announcing them.
