Emily Blunt becomes the MCU’s Invisible Woman in this awesome Fantastic Four fan art. Years ago, Blunt was considered for the role of Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the role ended up going to Scarlett Johansson. Nevertheless, Blunt found her way into the action genre through her roles in Edge of Tomorrow, Sicario, and A Quiet Place. Blunt is now among fans’ frequent picks for the role of Sue Storm, aka the Invisible Woman, who was previously played by Jessica Alba and Kate Mara. With the MCU looking to add the Fantastic Four in the coming years, there’s a lot of anticipation surrounding their casting.
Despite being one of the most well-known Marvel properties, the Fantastic Four has struggled a bit in their transition to the big screen. The first true attempts in the early 2000s featuring Alba, Ioan Gruffudd, Michael Chiklis, and Chris Evans were met with middling responses, leading Fox to reboot the franchise several years later. Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four in 2015, which reportedly was the victim of studio meddling, earned scathing reviews and a very poor box office total. As a result, fans were relieved to hear the rights to the Fantastic Four would return to Marvel Studios through the Disney-Fox merger.
Having already created art of other fan castings for Mr. Fantastic and the Human Torch, digital artist Yadvender Singh Rana shared this excellent piece of Blunt as the Invisible Woman. Blunt’s husband John Krasinski is fans’ top pick to play Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic, in the MCU, and there’s particular interest in seeing the duo take on one of Marvel’s most famous couples. After all, they’ve already shown how well they work together through A Quiet Place. Aside from that, though, Blunt’s action chops and overall talent would make her an excellent choice to play the MCU’s Invisible Woman. She already came close to playing a Marvel superhero with Black Widow, and perhaps this part will be a better fit. Earlier this year, Blunt said she hadn’t spoken to Marvel about the part, but that could always change.
Marvel boss Kevin Feige confirmed the Fantastic Four’s impending arrival at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, but since then, there haven’t been any updates. This indicates the Fantastic Four are still a ways away, as Marvel is likely focusing on the delayed start of Phase 4. It’s just going to be a bit until Marvel announces their casting picks, but fans certainly hope Blunt is included among their candidates. The fans are behind her on this one, so the ball is in Marvel’s court.
