New magazine covers for Eternals show the movie’s many heroes and call them Marvel’s “most powerful beings.” Marvel Studios confirmed plans for an Eternals movie in 2019 with Chloé Zhao attached to direct, prior to her winning the Academy Award for Best Director Oscar for her film Nomadland. The film will introduce a new type of hero to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as the Eternals are advanced humanoids created by Celestials and each character features uniquely powerful skills. The individual Eternals might not be well-known right now, but the movie boasts a star-studded cast that includes Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Richard Madden, Gemma Chan, Kumail Nanjiani, and more.
Following the release of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Eternals is officially the next MCU movie on the docket. Marvel Studios recently released the final trailer for the film that offered a better look at the story. The movie spans 7,000 years and it seems that the romance between Chan’s Sersi and Madden’s Ikaris will be at the forefront. But, Eternals also picks up after the events of Avengers: Endgame and deals with an apocalypse-level threat known as the Emergence. With the threat of the Deviants also looming large, the Eternals will be tested right from the start of their MCU journeys.
Marvel Studios is ramping up the marketing push for Eternals ahead of its planned exclusive theatrical release in November. The latest piece of the film’s marketing campaign includes multiple magazine covers for the upcoming issue of Total Film. There are four covers that pair together different members of the film’s cast, and a fifth subscriber-only cover that assembles them all together. Each of the main covers calls the Eternals Marvel’s “most powerful beings” and provides a closer look at the MCU’s newest heroes. Check out the images below:

The magazine covers calling Eternals‘ heroes the most powerful begins in the MCU is sure to catch the attention of fans. Audiences grew familiar with many powerful heroes and villains during the first decade of the MCU. The likes of Thor, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Scarlet Witch, and Thanos represent some of the strongest beings featured in the Infinity Saga. While some of these characters are still around as Phase 4 begins, the MCU is already signaling that their power levels are dwarfed by what the Eternals can do.
It is also worth noting how Marvel decided to split up the Eternals’ team for these magazine covers. Sersi and Ikaris’ pairing makes sense considering their millennia-spanning romance. Don Lee’s Gilgamesh and Jolie’s Thena being matched up also lines up with the trailers, as they appear to be living and training together in isolation. Hayek’s Ajak, Sprite (Lia McHugh), and Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry) shown together could point to the latter two having leadership roles with the team, since Ajak is the team’s overall leader. The pairing of Nanjiani’s Kingo, Makkari (Lauren Ridloff), and Druig (Barry Keoghan) might be more random, however, since Kingo is a Bollywood star, Makkari seems to be off on her own, and Druig is secluded from the rest of the team. Viewers can only expect the various Eternals pairings to make more sense when the film hits theaters.
