Stephen King's IT Spinoffs
Stephen King's IT Spinoffs

Stephen King’s IT is one of his most popular, and longest, novels, with director Andy Muschietti breaking up his adaptation of the story into two films, while writer Gary Dauberman thinks it’s possible a spinoff could be developed based on the story’s mythology.

During an interview with ComicBookMovie.com, Dauberman was asked if there was any chance of seeing spin-off films telling new stories about the horrifying Pennywise.

In response, Dauberman stated that he does believe IT spin-offs are possible and that there was only so much of the story they could tell with the two films. As Dauberman explained, spin-offs could expand upon elements from the novel and noted that the IT creature has likely been on Earth for a long time:

“Anything in the Stephen King Universe interests me but there’s only so much of the story we could tell in the two movies. There are definitely elements of the novel you could expand on and make its own movie. It’s just a question of whether or not people want to see it but I do think It was on this planet for a very, very, very long time and that’s a lot of bloodshed and a lot of stories to tell and I think you could do that for sure.”

Recently, it’s been rumored that Andy Muschietti apparently has plans to create of supercut of both IT films. While Dauberman confirmed he knows of Muschietti’s idea for an IT supercut and would love to see it, the writer added that the material cut from both films was removed for a reason:

“I know Andy has an idea about a ‘supercut’ which I would love to see but we cut things for a reason so if there was something I desperately wanted to see or wanted put in there, we could have found a way to put it in. That’s not to say that the stuff that’s not in there isn’t great but we put the stuff that’s in the movie there because that’s what makes it better.”

Dauberman concluded by saying he can’t think of anything he wishes hadn’t been cut or wants people to see, but he added, “I think there’s plenty of things there that fans would love to check out if there was to be a ‘supercut.’”

In IT CHAPTER TWO, 27 years after the Losers’ Club defeated Pennywise, he has returned to terrorize the town of Derry once more. Now adults, the Losers have long since gone their separate ways. However, kids are disappearing again, so Mike, the only one of the group to remain in their hometown, calls the others home. Damaged by the experiences of their past, they must each conquer their deepest fears to destroy Pennywise once and for all…putting them directly in the path of the clown that has become deadlier than ever.

IT CHAPTER TWO is available now on Digital HD and on 4k Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on December 10th.
