Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn recently responded to a fan who asked him if Batman will make an appearance in his next project, The Suicide Squad. Gunn has some bad news for those who are hoping for an appearance from Batman, as he explained in his Instagram story.
“You can check out Batman in #TheBatman, June 2021. #TheSuicideSquad will feature mostly, you know, The Suicide Squad,” Gunn wrote in response to one fan basically heckling him to include the Caped Crusader.
Now, this isn’t a definitive denial that Batman will not be included in the film, but it seems highly unlikely considering this is a soft reboot of the concept that will seemingly take place in the same continuity — given all of the actors returning for Gunn’s movie — but that a much younger version of Batman has been cast in the film.
The first Suicide Squad followed a team of supervillains who were recruited by the government for a dangerous black ops mission in exchange for reduced sentences. The ensemble cast included Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and Jared Leto as The Joker. James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is expected to deliver a new take on the supervillain team, with Idris Elba playing a fresh character, Jai Courtney reprising his role as Captain Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman playing Rick Flag again, David Dastmalchian starring as Polka-Dot Man, and Viola Davis returning as Amanda Waller. John Cena reportedly in talks for an undisclosed role.
The Suicide Squad is set to premiere in theaters on August 6, 2021.
