With Joker opening in theaters everywhere in less than a month, the upcoming IMAX release has unveiled its own exclusive poster putting Joaquin Phoenix’s Clown Prince of Crime center stage.
Released by IMAX, a new poster displays the iconic character in all his deranged glory. Dressed in the same suit and self-applied make-up depicted elsewhere in the film’s marketing, Phoenix’s Joker poses contently in front of a burning and graffiti-strewn car as an army of cheering clowns lurk in the background. The full, seemingly handpainted poster can be seen in the space below.
Todd Phillips’ upcoming film reimagines the nefarious criminal as failed standup comedian Arthur Fleck in the 1980s, caring for his ailing mother. Frustrated by years of feeling insignificant and suffering from a mental illness when he is denied access to affordable education, Arthur reinvents himself as a murderous crook and plunges the city into violence and mayhem.
Directed by Todd Phillips, Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais and Shea Whigham. The film arrives in theaters Oct. 4.
