The sequel to 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle opens in theaters everywhere this December and Sony has unveiled the poster for the upcoming film. The Rock, of course, is reprising his Welcome to the Jungle role as the in-game avatar, Dr. Smolder Bravestone, in the upcoming sequel, with his costars Jack Black, Karen Gillan, and Kevin Hart also returning. This time, however, the twist is that Dr. Bravestone is “played” by none other than Danny DeVito, who’s co-starring as Eddie Gilpin, aka. Spencer’s (Alex Wolff) grouchy grandfather. In fact, save for Gillan’s Ruby Roundhouse, all five of the Jumanji avatars are “played” by someone different in The Next Level.
Johnson posted the first Jumanji: The Next Level one-sheet to his Twitter account today, shortly before Sony made it officially available. You can check it out in the space below.
The sequel has the teenage protagonists of the previous film re-enter the video game world of Jumanji to rescue their friend Spencer after he’s lost inside the immersive reality. As the friends resume control of their respective avatars within the game, they find it has changed significantly since the last time they played.
A continuation of the fan-favorite 1995 film starring Robin Williams, Welcome to the Jungle earned over $962 million at the worldwide box office upon its theatrical release in 2017. With The Next Level, the franchise looks to include even more locations as the characters discover the world has grown much larger and varied since their last visit.
Jumanji: The Next Level will hit theaters on Dec. 13. Jake Kasdan returns to direct the movie which stars Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Karen Gillan, Danny DeVito, Danny Glover, Alex Wolff, Ser’Darius Blain, Madison Iseman and Morgan Turner.
