Concept artist Jerad S. Marantz shared unused Wolverine designs from a canceled project on Instagram.
Marantz, who has done concept art for both Marvel and DC movies, says the designs for Wolverine’s costume were for a project that never materialized. It is unknown what the project was, but Marantz hinted that it could have paid homage to Wolverine’s comic book outfit.
Based on Marantz’s sketches, it looks as if he was trying to recreate Wolverine’s costume, complete with his iconic mask. While all of Marantz’s suits are different in terms of the body wear, the mask stays the same across all of them.
In Fox’s X-Men films, Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine never wore his full comic book attire. However, in a deleted scene from 2013’s The Wolverine, he receives his comic book outfit as a gift, which marks the first time at an attempt to bring the comic book-based suit to the live-action X-Men films.
With Jackman’s time as Wolverine complete following 2017‘s Logan, it is unclear when Wolverine will be brought back to the big screen and how he will look in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It is also unknown how Wolverine and the rest of the X-Men will be integrated into the already expansive MCU.
