John Krasinki as Captain America
John Krasinki as Captain America

Stunning new fan art shows John Krasinski taking up the mantle of Captain America. Captain America has long been played by Chris Evans in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In his years as the iconic hero, Evans managed to capture the complexity, bravery, and innate loyalty of the super-soldier to perfection.

Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, is heralded as one of the cornerstones of the MCU. After receiving Doctor Abraham Erskine’s “Super Soldier Serum,” Steve Rogers transforms into a hero. While he’s later frozen in ice for over 60 years, Cap is finally found by S.H.I.E.L.D. in 2011, where he becomes a critical part of the Avengers team. However, Steve Rogers’ time as a hero comes to an end in Avengers: Endgame, when he passes on the title of Captain America to his friend Sam Wilson.

Digital artist artoftimetravel posts incredible fan art on Instagram, where he envisions Krasinski as Captain America instead of Evans. In artoftimetravel’s creation, Krasinski is dressed in Captain America’s blue costume, with the “A” visible on his forehead; he also holds Cap’s trademark red, white, and blue shield. In the image, the sun illuminates one side of Krasinski’s face, contrasting his calm expression with the fight raging in the background. You can check out artoftimetravel’s stunning work here:

The artist’s creation is accompanied by a hopeful caption stating Krasinski could potentially play Cap “in an alternate universe.” This is a reference to the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness film, where Doctor Strange will start to unravel the many mysteries of the multiverse. A multiverse opens the possibility that Doctor Strange will encounter familiar superheroes from various alternative universes who may be played by different actors. As such, while Evans will forever be remembered as the first Captain America, who’s to say that Krasinski couldn’t fill the role as well?

As of right now, though, it’s unlikely that Krasinski will be this universe’s Captain America anytime soon. With Disney+ series Falcon and the Winter Soldier in the works, Sam Wilson, aka Falcon, will eventually step into his new role as Captain America. That being said, the multiverse has endless potential for bringing an alternate Captain American to the big screen. However, perhaps it doesn’t matter so much who plays the hero, so long as the actor can embody Captain America’s undeniable sense of kindness and courage.
