The Mortal Kombat live-action movie reboot has gotten an official 2021 release date.

The film based on the popular fighting game franchise will be released on March 5, 2021, putting it in direct competition with another adaptation — Sony and Mattel Films’ Masters of the Universe — Fox’s animated Nimona and an untitled Universal movie.

Virtually nothing is known about the story or cast of Mortal Kombat so far. Last year, character details for Mortal Kombat were thought to have been released, however, one of the film’s producers was quick to refute the report. As of right now, the only possible casting announcement is Joel Edgerton as Kano, although Warner Bros. hasn’t officially hired the actor just yet.

The adaptation is being produced by James Wan through New Line Cinema, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. The screenplay is written by Greg Russo and marks the feature directorial debut of Simon McQuoid. However, no cast has been announced by New Line at this time.
