James Wan’s Mortal Kombat film is zeroing in on a Power Rangers star to play Liu Kang. The fighting video game has already been put to the big screen twice before in 1995 and the 1997 sequel Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. After over two decades on the shelf, New Line Cinema is gearing up to reboot the franchise.

According to Variety, Ludi Lin is in talks for the role, which is based on one of the several original characters from the franchise. Lin has not officially signed on at this point, but he will play the role of Liu Kang if a deal is made. Kang is one of the original seven characters from the very first Mortal Kombat video game and was played by Robin Shou in the original film adaptations.

In addition to Power Rangers, Lin has appeared in Aquaman and Marco Polo. Most recently, he appeared in Black Mirror, where he played a fighter character within the world of a Mortal Kombat-esque video game.

If cast, Lin will join Joe Taslim, who was announced as Sub-Zero last month. Joel Edgerton was also being eyed for the role of Kano. Mortal Kombat is set to hit theaters in March 2021.
