Sonic the Hedgehog gets his awaited redesign in the new trailer for the live-action/CGI video game film.
However, it’s not merely the design that’s changed. The new trailer shifts the focus to the title character, voiced by Ben Schwartz, giving his personality and abilities far more screen time, while Jim Carrey’s villainous Dr. Robotnik plays more of a supporting role.
Paramount is clearly determined to show that it’s gotten Sonic right on the second try, as this trailer is nearly three minutes long, and shows the adorable blue hedgehog in a range of settings. This is no mere proof of concept.
Based on the global blockbuster video game franchise from Sega, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG tells the story of the world’s speediest hedgehog as he embraces his new home on Earth. In this live-action adventure comedy, Sonic and his new best friend Tom (James Marsden) team up to defend the planet from the evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) and his plans for world domination. The family-friendly film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.
Opening Feb. 14, director Jeff Fowler’s Sonic the Hedgehog stars Ben Schwartz as Sonic and Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, with James Marsden, Neal McDonald, Tika Sumpter, Adam Pally and Natasha Rothwell.
