A fresh glimpse into the world of “Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperios” has surfaced online.

Recently shared on Twitter by artist Jose Iturriaga, the image offers a sneak peek into the upcoming DC animated movie. Set against the backdrop of the Aztec Empire.

Iturriaga expressed his excitement in the caption, revealing his role as Concept Environment Artist for the film and eagerly anticipating its release on Max.

What do we know about Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperios?

The film, directed by Juan Meza-León and announced by Warner Bros. Animation, Anima, and Chatrone in June 2022, boasts a stellar lineup of producers including José C. García de Letona, Aaron D. Berger, Carina Schulze, and Fernando De Fuentes, with Sam Register and Tomás Yankelevich serving as executive producers.

Set in the era of the Aztec Empire, the story follows Yohualli Coatl. A young Aztec boy who faces tragedy when his father and village leader, Toltecatzin, is slain by Spanish Conquistadors. Seeking refuge in Tenochtitlan, Yohualli warns King Moctezuma and high priest Yoka of the looming threat. With the temple of Tzinacan, the bat god, as his hideout, Yohualli, alongside his mentor Acatzin, trains to confront the invading Spaniards, safeguard Moctezuma’s temple, and avenge his father’s death.

Horacio García Rojas lends his voice to Yohualli, while Omar Chaparro voices Yoka (The Joker), and Álvaro Morte voices Hernán Cortés (Two-Face). Additional voice cast members are yet to be announced.

The official release date for “Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperios” on HBO Max Latin America is still pending.
