Saturday Night Live spoofed Joker with an Oscar the Grouch origin story that puts Sesame Street in the cold heart of Gotham City.
The video, which you can see below, sees Stranger Things star David Harbour as Oscar the Grouch. While parodying various scenes from trailers for Joker, the skit imagines gritty versions of classic Sesame Street characters, including Big Bird, Elmo and The Count. The movie, which is fake-directed by Todd Phillips, is titled Grouch, after its main character.
Although the movie has proven quite divisive, Joker has dominated the box office for two weekends straight, taking in a total of over $500 million worldwide. Joker won the coveted Golden Lion at this year’s Venice Film Festival.
Directed by Todd Phillips, Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais and Shea Whigham. The film is in theaters now.
