A brand new banner for the upcoming Sonic The Hedgehog film offers a fresh look at the titular character’s official redesign.
The possible first look at the redesigned character comes from Tails’ Channel, a Sonic fan page on Twitter. Tails’ Channel shared an image of what looks like a movie standee at an unknown movie theater. The full tweet can be seen below:
Little has been heard about the Sonic the Hedgehog movie since the film was delayed from November 2019 to February 2020. Producer Tim Miller has said that “fans will be pleased” with Sonic’s redesign, which is hopefully the case since Sonic’s creator Yuji Naka was even disappointed with the live-action design. While most people have been all for the decision to redesign the character, Jim Carrey has previously commented that he didn’t like, “the audience being in on the creation” and felt that fans shouldn’t have “a sense of ownership from their childhood.”
Earlier this summer, when the Sonic The Hedgehog trailer was released to the public, fans were disappointed to find out that Sonic wasn’t rocking his classic look. This led to much ridicule at Sonic’s design and the film in general. After listening to fans, Paramount Pictures and the film’s director decided to push the project back and make Sonic The Hedgehog the best they could. While we haven’t seen any new footage since that first trailer to show off the new redesign in action, this is a good start to winning back the hearts of fans.
