Tom Holland reveals a Spider-Man 3 set photo of himself in costume as Peter Parker aka Spider-Man as filming on the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movie officially starts. Last summer, Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures struck a deal for Holland’s Spider-Man to stay in the MCU – of which he’s been a part since 2016’s Captain America: Civil War – and announced plans for a third film in the superhero’s solo franchise as well as another team-up adventure. At the time, Spider-Man 3 was slated for a July 2021 release date, but that has since been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
With Hollywood beginning to get back on track and new movies entering production, Spider-Man 3 has been heading toward a filming start. Over the last few weeks, the stars of Spider-Man 3, including Holland, Zendaya (Michelle Jones) and Jacob Batalon (Ned Leeds), have assembled in Atlanta, Georgia where many Marvel projects have filmed. Going a step further, both Holland and Batalon have teased their first glimpses at the film’s script, though Holland promised not to spoil Spider-Man 3. Now, Holland has posted a photo of himself in costume on set, offering a first look at Spider-Man 3 filming.
On Instagram, Holland unveiled a new Spider-Man 3 image taken on the set of the Marvel movie featuring the actor wearing his superhero costume from Spider-Man: Far From Home. The actor also sports a face mask on top of it in reference to the film’s safety protocols to combat the spread of COVID-19. In the caption, Holland writes, “Wear a mask, I’m wearing two…” Check out the post below.

In terms of what this new image reveals, it mainly serves as confirmation that Holland has started filming Spider-Man 3. The actor hinted as much earlier this week when he posted a GIF of himself on the set of Spider-Man: Homecoming, but this image of Holland in Peter’s costume from Spider-Man: Far From Home is the official confirmation that cameras have started rolling. Further, this image indicates that Holland’s Spider-Man may not get a new costume in the upcoming movie. That would make sense since the red and black Far From Home costume was only created late in that movie and is still relatively new within the MCU timeline. Plus, this Spider-Man suit is already the fifth costume Holland’s Peter has donned in the MCU – after his homemade suit, the Stark/Homecoming suit, the Iron-Spider suit and the Night Monkey suit – so it would be good if it stuck around a little longer.
There’s also a story reason for Spider-Man not trading out his suit for a new one, which is that Peter Parker was outed as the alter-ego of Spidey at the end of Far From Home. As part of that revelation in the Spider-Man: Far From Home post-credits scenes, Peter was also framed for the murder of Mysterio, meaning he may be on the run and may not have access to the resources that would be able to provide him a new suit. The exact plot of Spider-Man 3, and even the film’s title, are still unknown. But it has been reported that Benedict Cumberbatch will appear as Doctor Strange, and in a more shocking report, it was revealed Jamie Foxx will appear as Electro, reprising his role from Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2. How these elements all come together may be revealed as filming progresses. Perhaps the next biggest reveal likely to arrive is the official unveiling of the Spider-Man 3 movie title, though that remains to be seen.
