New concept art for Spider-Man: Far From Home sees Peter Parker battling an army of Iron Man zombies.
Newly surfaced concept art from Spider-Man: Far From Home shows Spider-Man (Tom Holland) battling an army of Iron Man zombies as part of a lifelike illusion conjured by new enemy Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal). The images were first published by Marvel Visual Development artist Henrik Tamm on Instagram.
One unused concept, depicted by Tamm, shows Spider-Man fleeing down the corridor of Midtown High as he’s pursued by multiple iterations of Iron Man, each sporting suits once worn by Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr). Another dropped illusion shows a stories-tall Iron Man looming large over Spider-Man, who in the finished film is menaced by a decrepit Iron Man zombie that claws itself free from a fresh grave.
Fans asked Tamm why this piece of concept art didn’t make it to the theatrical cut of Far From Home, but the creator has yet to reply. Perhaps it’s due to time constraints. Mysterio’s illusion bit ran for quite a while and Peter saw a lot of things during that trippy venture – from fake Fury and Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) to MJ (Zendaya) in Paris. As cool as it is to see this illustration on the big screen, it’s more or less a repeat of the version that fans saw on theaters – if not better. Unless Marvel Studios is planting plot seeds with the highlight of these zombie Iron Man army, a single one crawling out of Tony’s tombstone and reach out for Peter more appropriately encapsulated the young hero feeling haunted buy the death of his mentor.
Spider-Man: Far From Home is expected to swing onto 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray in early October. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will offer multiple store exclusive versions, each with their own unique packaging or cover art.
