A new image of the Knights of Ren from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has released and it offers a great closeup look at the characters.

While the masked companions of Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren were briefly glimpsed during a flashback in J.J. Abrams Star Wars: The Force Awakens, they were noticeably absent in Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Now, as Abrams returns to direct the final chapter of the current Star Wars trilogy, it looks like he’ll be picking up the dangling plot thread.

Courtesy of Empire, a new image of the Knights of Ren from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker offers a good closeup look at these followers of Kylo. The Knights of Ren have been glimpsed in trailers, a few behind-the-scenes photos, and even on the cover of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary, but this latest image offers another look at the Star Wars‘ latest villains. Check it out, below:

Why the Knights of Ren aren’t by Kylo Ren’s side by the time the story reaches The Force Awakens will possibly be explained in The Rise of the Skywalker. Though, given there with so many other stories to tell and character arcs to round off, it is unclear if the Knights of Ren will have a starring role in the sci-fi sequel. In fact, Johnson said an already full story for The Last Jedi was the exact reason the Knights of Ren weren’t in his movie.

Directed and co-written by J.J. Abrams, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker stars Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Billie Lourd, Keri Russell, Anthony Daniels, Mark Hamill, Billy Dee Williams and Carrie Fisher, with Naomi Ackie and Richard E. Grant. The film arrives Dec. 20.
