Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker star Anthony Daniels rejects the notion fans will boycott the film and says everyone will enjoy it.
Daniels, the actor that has inhabited C-3PO’s shiny metal costume since 1977, admitted to the French press during his tour of Paris that he doesn’t believe the fans claiming to boycott the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will actually go through with it — and why it would be a pity for them if they did.
When asked why he thought The Rise of Skywalker would be the end of not only the sequel trilogy but of the entire Skywalker Saga, Daniels said, “It’s always difficult to talk at a time like this, because there are many secrets. This is because we want to give the world a present, a Christmas present. […] So we have to keep the secrets. But what I can truly say, because I always try to tell the truth… this is an extraordinary movie.”
“And what amuses me is that there are people on the Internet, that… I know that fans are so devoted to every film that from time to time, they are disappointed, because there are some things that they don’t like,” he continued. “And they say, ‘I will never again watch a Star Wars movie! Never, never again!'”
“Yeah… no. I know very well that he went straight to the theater, because it’s the end of the story, and it makes all the pieces fit together in a magnificent work. It’s the brain of J.J. Abrams, and also Chris Terrio’s extraordinary script writing. So I think that everyone, every fan, every person will feel addressed, because it’s something for the world. It exists in every family, parents, grandparents and children. Three generations. It’s something to share. Maybe you love the dark side, or the other aspects. The feminine, the masculine, there is a rapport and something in there for everyone.”
It’s true some people may choose to skip The Rise of Skywalker in theaters, but the film is expected to be the main event of the holiday season and continue Disney’s unprecedented run of dominance in 2019. Like The Force Awakens and Last Jedi before it, Star Wars 9 should be a $1 billion sensation as it ends the Skywalker saga.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker arrives in theaters on Dec. 20.
