The final trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker shows another surprising team-up between Rey and Kylo Ren, only this time their aggression isn’t focused on a person, at least directly.
In the trailer, Rey and a masked Kylo Ren are in what appears to be an Imperial medical chamber, much like the one used by Darth Vader in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. And in the quick scene, they appear to be destroying a statue — or maybe Rey is destroying it while Kylo Ren attempts to stop her.
We finally got some clarification thanks to The Star Wars Show, which reveals that the statue being destroyed is actually a shrine in the likeness of Darth Vader, which makes sense that Kylo would attempt to protect it.
Rey’s part in the act is understandable, but why would Kylo partake in the destruction of a shrine to his idol? The film will presumably have the answers, but it appears that Kylo — now again wearing his Vader-esque mask — has done an about-face regarding his grandfather.

Kylo’s loyalties have been tested before. While he killed his father Han Solo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, he hesitated to take fatal action against his mother Leia Organa in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. And in that previous film, Kylo killed Supreme Leader Snoke and then teamed up with Rey to take out Snoke’s Praetorian Guards.
Directed and co-written by J.J. Abrams, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker stars Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Anthony Daniels, Naomi Ackie, Domhnall Gleeson, Richard E.
