Jonah Hill might join the cast of The Batman in a villain role, with him potentially playing either Penguin or Riddler.
Hill’s possible addition for The Batman first came from a report from Deadline, which revealed that the actor is in talks to play a villain role. While they weren’t able to provide an answer on which of Batman’s villains Hill could play, a report from Collider claims that Edward Nygma aka Riddler is the choice. However, THR is now saying that WB, Reeves, and Hill are still debating whether he should play Riddler or Oswald Cobblepot aka Penguin, and they stress that it’s unknown if an agreement will be reached.
The Penguin made his first appearance in Detective Comics #58 and is one of Batman’s most notorious villains. Danny DeVito portrayed the character in 1992’s Batman Returns. On television, the character has been played by Burgess Meredith and Robin Lord Taylor.
Pattinson was cast as the new Batman in late May, following Ben Affleck’s departure from the role. While some were happy with the casting announcement, others were displeased and even started petitions to get Pattinson removed from the role. While it has yet to be officially confirmed, it seems that The Batman will stand alone and not be a part of the DC Extended Universe. DC’s upcoming Joker will follow suit and also not connect to the other films.
Starring Robert Pattinson, The Batman is directed by Matt Reeves, who will also produce alongside Dylan Clark. While casting is still underway, the film is scheduled to be released on June 25, 2021.
