Peter Sarsgaard is the newest cast member of Matt Reeves’ The Batman movie.
As revealed on his Twitter, Reeves confirmed that Sarsgaard has now joined the cast of The Batman. Unlike prior confirmations from the director, this tweet does not appear to reveal who he will play. There has been speculation that he could share his first name with his character, making him a possible fit for Deputy Commissioner Peter Grogan.
Additionally, THR reports that he may play either a corrupt cop named Wasserman or a district attorney. Nothing is confirmed on those fronts though, leaving us with only Reeves’ tweet. This will not be Sarsgaard’s first role in a DC movie though. He previously played Hector Hammond in 2011’s Green Lantern.
Last month there were reports that The Batman could lead to several villain-centric spinoff films, with select cast members from The Batman and Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) having options in their contracts to appear in both sequels and solo movies.
Directed and co-written by Matt Reeves, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson, Zoƫ Kravitz, Andy Serkis, Colin Farrell, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, Jayme Lawson and Peter Sarsgaard. The film arrives June 25, 2021.
