Penguin and Catwoman will reportedly be villains in Matt Reeves’ upcoming solo The Batman movie.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the production is looking to include Penguin and Catwoman in the film, though it’s a bit more tentative about the latter’s inclusion. Reports from earlier this year indicated The Batman would feature Penguin as a villain. THR notes it’s not quite clear at this time just how many villains The Batman will have, but one source suggests there might be around six.
If this report is accurate, then The Batman could be a bit of a familiar sight for moviegoers. Tim Burton previously used both Penguin and Catwoman in Batman Returns, where Danny DeVito and Michelle Pfeiffer portrayed the respective villains, and both characters even appeared in Batman: The Movie. Catwoman has received additional screen time in the years that followed, as Halle Berry played her in a solo film and Anne Hathaway did the same in The Dark Knight Rises.
The Batman is directed by Matt Reeves, who will also produce alongside Dylan Clark. The film is scheduled to be released on June 25, 2021.
