The Batman set photos reveal Bruce Wayne wearing a gun holster. After a series of start-and-stops in production due to the coronavirus pandemic, principal photography for the upcoming Matt Reeves’ DC Films project is now in full swing. Despite Warner Bros. officially delaying the movie from October 2021 to March 2022, giving it a few more months of wiggle room in light of the several filming hurdles it suffered the last several months.
Plot details for the movie are still scant the moment, but it’s been confirmed that it’ll be set in Bruce’s second year as the Bat of Gotham. In August, Reeves and Pattinson debuted the first trailer for The Batman and revealed that the blockbuster would explore the corruption in the city and how the Waynes supposedly connect to all of this. The Riddler (Paul Dano) is tipped to be the narrative’s primary villain. The project also features a couple of other antagonists, such as Penguin (Colin Farrell) and Catwoman (Zoe Kravitz). Meanwhile, Jeffrey Wright and Andy Serkis are also joining as Commissioner Gordon and Alfred Pennyworth, respectively.
Now that filming has resumed for The Batman, several set images have emerged online, the latest of which features Pattinson wearing his Caped Crusader costume. Since filming is taking place during the daytime, specific details of his suit are more explicitly seen, including what seems to be a gun holster. Before these new The Batman images, there were previously revealed set images featuring Pattinson dressed as Bruce attending the funeral of Don Mitchell — The Riddler’s victim and the mayor of Gotham city supposedly played by Rupert Penry-Jones. Other cast members were also present during filming, including Kravitz as Selina Kyle and Farell as Oswald Cobblepot. Considering that it hasn’t been long since Pattinson contracted coronavirus himself, it’s impressive that he appears to have fully recovered from the illness and is back shooting rigorous scenes as the titular superhero as backed by these snaps.
That said, the biggest takeaway from these photos is what appears to be a gun holster in Batman’s costume. Assuming that this is the case, it’s an interesting idea since the superhero is known for not using any firearms and is generally against killing people. This is the reason why Ben Affleck’s version of the character sparked controversy when he seemed to be on a murder-spree in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice — granted that his victims were bad guys. However, it’s worth noting that in his earliest outings in the comics, Batman carried and used guns. On the flip side, there’s also the argument that the holster may not be actually for a traditional firearm; instead, it could be for his grapple or even a stun gun. In The Batman trailer, Pattinson’s Caped Crusader has been shown seemingly using a grapple gun while descending in an unknown location. Whether or not the upcoming version of the Bat Gotham uses firearms remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: everything that has been revealed about the project thus far has piqued fans’ interest.
