So far, there has been no indication that Batman will share the screen with his fellow iconic DC hero Superman in Matt Reeves’ upcoming The Batman. However, there may be some new evidence that the character does, at least, exist in the movie’s universe.
Twitter user Yassine shared a photo taken at the set of The Batman, showing a number of people including one man dressed in Superman’s classic red-caped outfit.
Although the costume is recognizable as Superman, it also doesn’t appear to be of the caliber or style that a major theatrical DC film would warrant, leading to speculation about a costume party scene. If a background character was to dress up as Superman, this would at least mean that the world in this setting knows about him as a legend or celebrity.
The actor wearing the costume was allegedly clearly affiliated with the production: “Also btw this dude was on the extra’s bus and got into set,” Yassine pointed out. “This ain’t a random dude.”
Directed by Matt Reeves and written by Reeves and Mattson Tomlin, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/The Riddler, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone and Peter Sarsgaard as District Attorney Gil Colson. The film arrives in theaters March 4, 2022.
