Kevin Feige says the Marvel Studios films from the first three phases of the MCU are “The Infinity Saga.”
“We wanted to bring to a conclusion a series of movies in a way that had never been done before,” observed Feige in a print interview with Empire magazine. “Harry Potter had an ending because there were only so many books. Lord of the Rings too. But we thought, 22 movies in, wouldn’t it be fun to bring some finality to the storyline?”

Until now (via ScreenRant), the MCU has been broken down into phases, Phase 1 culminated in Joss Whedon’s The Avengers and is composed of the origin stories for the franchise’s founding heroes. Phase 2 is a mix of sequels and origin films for new characters such as the Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man. Phase 3, which is the longest of all, boasts a diverse roster of films – from Black Panther to Infinity War. It’s also the only phase that has two event films with Avengers 3 and Endgame. Feige has always utilized the comics for their inspiration for the MCU – not only in terms of narrative, but also how they set-up their franchise – so it’s not surprising that he has a collective name for the initial wave of Marvel films somehow similar to how the comics do it.
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Avengers: Endgame stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson, Karen Gillan, Danai Gurira, Benedict Wong, Jon Favreau and Bradley Cooper, with Gwyneth Paltrow and Josh Brolin. The film arrives April 26.
