Travis Knight has signed on to direct the upcoming Warner Bros. film, The Six Billion Dollar Man. Mark Wahlberg is still set to star.

Knight is known for directing the recent Transformers spin-off Bumblebee, as well as the fan-favorite Kubo and the Two Strings. Sue Kroll, Bill Gerber, and Steve Levinson are producing, with the script written by Bill DuBuque.

The project has suffered quite a few major developments in recent years, including Warner Bros. picking up the rights from The Weinstein Company. Most recently, the departure of director Damian Szifron.

The film, which is based on the iconic Six Million Dollar Man television series, will see Wahlberg playing Col. Steve Austin, a pilot who is saved by an experiment that gives him bionic body parts.

The Six Billion Dollar Man has been in development for several years with Mark Wahlberg. The film previously received a November 2017 release date, but Wahlberg’s busy schedule and the need to further improve the project resulted in The Six Billion Dollar Man not meeting this date. Instead, the film has seen several possible start up points, with release dates set for 2019 and then 2020.

With the new pieces in place and Knight’s supervision, hopefully this will be the time that The Six Billion Dollar Man makes substantial progress.
