Fan art for Thor: Love and Thunder shows Christian Bale as Adam Warlock fighting Chris Hemsworth’s God of Thunder. Thor: Love and Thunder is the upcoming fourth installment in the Thor franchise currently set for a 2022 release. It will feature returning cast members Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, and Natalie Portman, among others. Portman’s inclusion is particularly noteworthy, as she was absent from Thor: Ragnarok. In the new movie, her character Jane Foster will take up the mantle of Mighty Thor. Director Taika Waititi, who revitalized the series with Thor: Ragnarok, will return for Love and Thunder as well.
As far as new cast members go, news broke at the start of this year that Bale was in talks to join Thor: Love and Thunder. Since then, there’s been no confirmation of who he’s playing in the film, though Thompson revealed it will be a villain. Some fans are hoping he’ll play Beta Ray Bill, a suggestion that gained traction after the movie was rumored to feature the character. However, last month, Waititi played those rumors down, saying he didn’t know yet if Beta Ray would appear. Meanwhile, it was long thought that Adam Warlock would appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 rather than Thor: Love and Thunder. However, Guardians director James Gunn called that into question last year, reminding fans he “never said Adam Warlock was in the movie.”
If Adam Warlock ends up appearing in Thor: Love and Thunder, fans now know what that might look like. Digital artist Camille Vialet has crafted an image with Thor and Adam Warlock fighting, provided that’s who Bale ends up playing. In the image, Thor wields his Stormbreaker axe, while Warlock wears a suit similar to the one seen in the comics, albeit with more subdued colors. Though fans don’t know who Bale is playing in Thor: Love and Thunder, some other information is already out there. For one, Silver Surfer won’t appear in the movie, despite Disney’s purchase of Fox. Love and Thunder will also reveal more about Korg’s origin and his species, as well as a new look for Miek. Waititi also recently excited fans by sharing the movie will feature space sharks, or Starsharks as they’re officially known. That reveal in particular seems to confirm Waititi’s assertion Thor: Love and Thunder will make Thor: Ragnarok look “safe.“
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Bale’s character in Thor: Love and Thunder, it’s cool to see what he would look like as Adam Warlock. It’s hard to say at this time when or if Marvel will confirm who Bale is playing. Once the movie starts filming, it will likely be difficult to keep the identity of his character a secret, so hopefully fans will find out sooner rather than later. In the meantime, they can enjoy imagining what a fight between Thor and Warlock would look like.
