Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man emerges from one of Doctor Strange’s (Benedict Cumberbatch) glowing portal in some stunning fan art. Spider-Man has long been regarded as one of Marvel’s most popular characters. While he’s currently played by Tom Holland in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, both Maguire and Andrew Garfield have portrayed the Friendly Neighborhood Spider in the past.
Maguire transformed into Spider-Man for Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy. Yet while Maguire nailed Spider-Man’s fast-paced action sequences — including the iconic subway scene from Spider-Man 2 — he also captured the reality of Peter Parker’s frenzied double life. Audience members not only saw Peter’s heroic side, but watched him navigate his way through school, friendships, and two different side jobs. Maguire’s Peter Parker was often seen as an outsider as well, and the actor was able to embody the webslinger’s undeniable sense of loneliness.
Hibban Mohammed shares some incredible Spidey art via Instagram. The post shows Maguire’s Spider-Man coming out of a Doctor Strange portal into what appears to be the New York Sanctum. The image shows Maguire’s outstretched hand, poised to shoot some webbing into the air. Two other Spider-Mans — presumably Holland and Garfield — stand before the portal, waiting for Maguire to fully emerge. Mohammed has also included a fun Easter Egg in his creation, with a “Joe’s Pizza” sign clearly visible inside the portal. You can check out this cool crossover below:
Fans have speculated for weeks that both Maguire and Garfield will join Holland in Spider-Man 3. Although a Sony representative has already debunked these casting rumors, this hasn’t stopped the fervent hope that all three Spideys will be on screen at the same time. In addition, Doctor Strange is set to appear in Spider-Man 3; if anyone could bring all three Spider-Men together, it would be the incredibly powerful sorcerer. As such, Spider-Man 3 is the perfect opportunity to ensure that Maguire, Garfield, and Holland come face to face with one another.
While plot details for Spider-Man 3 are scarce, filming has already started in New York. Right now, it seems that the crew is focused on establishing shots, although Holland has confirmed that he will start working on Spider-Man 3 once he’s wrapped on Uncharted. It will likely be a while longer before Marvel or Sony release any further news about production. However, if any New York residents happen to see Maguire or Garfield on set, they’ll know that the highly anticipated Spider-Man crossover is finally (and officially!) happening.
