Paramount is developing two new Transformers movie scripts at the same time. One is reportedly based on the popular Beast Wars: Transformers computer-animated TV series, with the second taking place in the Bumblebee movie universe.
According to Variety, Paramount now has screenplays for two new Transformers movies in simultaneous development, with James Vanderbilt writing one and Joby Harold the other. Details are vague beyond that, though Variety‘s sources believe one of the scripts could be set in the Bumblebee universe and the other would be a full-on reboot. It’s also expected that both films will feature brand-new casts and directors, should they come to fruition.

Vanderbilt’s previous film work includes co-writing Andrew Garfield’s Amazing Spider-Man and Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Adam Sandler’s Murder Mystery for Netflix. Harold’s prior movie work includes Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, John Wick: Chapter 2 and John Wick: Chapter 3 – Para Bellum.
Beast Wars: Transformers put a different spin on the rivalry between the Autobots and Decepticons by and introduced time travel into the franchise’s future. The series featured the Maximals and Predacons, who were descendants of the Autobots and Decepticons, respectively.
