DC fans just got their first glimpse of the upcoming Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) movie thanks to a short teaser trailer. This teaser doesn’t shed much light on the film’s plot, but it does offer us a quick glimpse of all the major players. The breakout success of Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad resulted in headlining a movie of her own. Birds of Prey isn’t a traditional solo movie though, as Harley will be teaming up with other female heroes.

Thanks to a just launched YouTube channel for Birds of Prey called CheekySneakyPeeky, the first look at the entire cast has been revealed.  The video is only 20 seconds long but actually packs quite a lot in. It starts with shots of Harley. Then (judging from the crossbow) Huntress who walks into a large, empty room. Hypnotic electronica music begins to play followed by a quickly cut montage of the movie’s characters. There’s shots of Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Huntress), Jurnee Smollett-Bell (Black Canary), Ewan McGregor (Black Mask), Ella Jay Basco (Cassandra Cain), Chris Messina (Victor Zsasz), and Rosie Perez (Renee Montoya).

The video follows an image that Robbie posted on Instagram which highlighted Harley’s new look. The movie is directed by Cathy Yan, and releases in February 2020. The film is written by Christina Hodson, who recently scored a big hit with the Transformers spin-off Bumblebee.

The costumes and tone of the footage also helps establish what we can expect from the movie. Robbie and Yan have said before that the goal was to be an R-rated girl gang film, and this footage sells just that – regardless if any of it will actually be in the movie. There is a certain amount of grit and realism to the costumes, while the teaser emits fun undertone, something Robbie has promised Birds of Prey will do. Since a sneak peek like this wasn’t expected to drop so soon, Birds of Prey appears to be getting ahead of expectations with its release.
