STXfilms on Thursday released the first trailer for its upcoming action-comedy My Spy, starring Dave Bautista.
My Spy casts Bautista as a tough-as-nails CIA operative who kills too many people to really make a difference in the intelligence world. He gets one last chance to prove himself, but his mission is compromised when a nine-year-old girl (Chloe Coleman) walks in on his operation. Bautista finds himself forced to bend to her whims in order to keep his identity a secret, and appears to become a better person in the process.

Judging by the first look, Bautista’s career is taking a similar turn to Dwayne Johnson’s when The Rock began to focus all of his attention on Hollywood. Johnson went from major action-based roles in films like The Rundown, Walking Tall and Doom before trying his hand at family movies like The Game Plan. Similarly, Bautista is trading in his roles of superheroes and Bond villains for My Spy, a film that pairs him up with a young precocious child, albeit still in the action setting the star is used to.
Directed by Peter Segal, based on a script by Jon and Erich Hoeber, My Spystars Dave Bautista, Chloe Coleman, Kristen Schaal, and Ken Jeong. The film will receive a release later in 2019.
