The first trailer for Denzel Washington’s The Equalizer 3 is filled with plenty of action, violence and an unexpected amount of gore.
The promotional video follows the titular anti-hero, once again played Oscar-winner Washington, as he attempts to start a new life in a quiet Italian town. Leaving behind his career as a government assassin, having lost many loved ones in the process, Robert McCall finally feels like he belongs. This all changes when he discovers the mafia’s presence in the village, prompting him to once again fall back on his violent talents and dispatch justice in any brutal way he sees fit. Beyond Washington, Antoine Fuqua also returns to the director’s chair, having previously helmed the first two films in the franchise.
Based on the 1980s series of the same name, the first Equalizer movie earned critical acclaim for its tight action scenes and compelling performance from Washington. The sequel, simply titled The Equalizer 2, was less well-received but still ultimately proved to be a success at the box office, solidifying the franchise as a cult classic among fans of action movies.
The Equalizer 3 explodes into theaters on Sept. 1.
