A new trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness features zombie versions of both Stephen Strange and Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch.
At two separate points in the minute-long trailer, the camera cuts to the zombified versions of Wanda and Strange that were introduced in Disney+’s animated Marvel Cinematic Universe series What If…? The zombie Strange had been teased in previous Multiverse of Madness marketing materials, but this is the clearest look yet.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness picks up on plot points established in not just What If…? but WandaVision and Spider-Man: No Way Home. “It is madness, for sure, what happens in our film,” Benedict Cumberbatch recently explained. “It’s pretty full-on. And it’s big, man. It’s very, very ambitious. And if we bring it off, I think it could be one of the biggest [Marvel films] we’ve seen so far.”
At the helm of Multiverse of Madness is Spider-Man trilogy director Sam Raimi, who took over when Scott Derrickson departed over creative differences. “We want it to be a Sam Raimi movie,” Marvel Studios President/Marvel CCO Kevin Feige said. “We would give notes like, ‘This action is cool – you’re competing with Avengers and Spider-Man, no problem – but don’t forget the Sam Raimi parts.'”
Directed by Sam Raimi, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness conjures its way into theaters on May 6.
