Ghostface is back once again in Scream VI‘s chilling teaser trailer.
While giving little away in terms of the movie’s plot, the brief video sets the tone for the franchise’s jump to the big city. Taking place on what seems to be Halloween, the movie’s protagonists climb aboard a train only to find it packed with masked individuals. It doesn’t take long for them to realize that they’re surrounded by Ghostfaces, many of which seem to be staring them down. The teaser ends with the brutal killer pinning a passenger to the side of the train and seemingly stabbing them despite being surrounded by onlookers.
Alongside the teaser trailer, Paramount also unveiled a new synopsis for Scream VI that confirms the franchise’s departure from sleepy small-town murders. “Following the latest Ghostface killings, the four survivors leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter. In Scream VI, Melissa Barrera (Sam Carpenter), Jasmin Savoy Brown (Mindy Meeks-Martin), Mason Gooding (Chad Meeks-Martin), Jenna Ortega (Tara Carpenter), Hayden Panettiere (Kirby Reed) and Courteney Cox (Gale Weathers) return to their roles in the franchise alongside Jack Champion, Henry Czerny, Liana Liberato, Dermot Mulroney, Devyn Nekoda, Tony Revolori, Josh Segarra, and Samara Weaving.”
Not Everyone Is Back for Scream VI
While Scream VI is set to see several classic characters return to the franchise, one notable absence is that of Neve Campbell, who played series protagonist Sidney Prescott in multiple installments. The actor has stated that her reasoning for not returning is due to a pay dispute, noting that she felt she wasn’t valued enough by the studio. “As a woman, I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream,” Campbell wrote. “I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.”
Despite this, fans of the Scream series can look forward to plenty more brutal kills at the hands of Ghostface. Barrera explained that the move to New York City has only heightened Ghostface’s killing abilities, resulting in a movie that will be the bloodiest chapter yet. “‘More blood spritz’ was the saying because they would just always want more,” Barrera said. “With this one, they were like, ‘We’re going all out.’ It’s potentially a hundred times gorier.”
Scream VI hits theaters on March 10, 2023.
