DC unveils the first official Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom movie trailer. Ahead of DC Studios’ relaunch of the DC Extended Universe into the new DC Universe, Jason Momoa’s second solo outing as the aquatic superhero will serve as the official end of the franchise, while following on from the events of 2018’s Aquaman. Much of the first film’s stars are back in the Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom cast, allowing returning director James Wan to tell a suitable followup story.
That story takes shape in the Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom trailer, which has been released online by DC. The new footage reveals that Aquaman 2 picks up four years after the events of the first movie and find Arthur Curry as both a father and the King of Atlantis. Watch the trailer below:
“Having failed to defeat Aquaman the first time, Black Manta, still driven by the need to avenge his father’s death, will stop at nothing to take Aquaman down once and for all. This time Black Manta is more formidable than ever before, wielding the power of the mythic Black Trident, which unleashes an ancient and malevolent force,” reads the film’s synopsis. “To defeat him, Aquaman will turn to his imprisoned brother Orm, the former King of Atlantis, to forge an unlikely alliance. Together, they must set aside their differences in order to protect their kingdom and save Aquaman’s family, and the world, from irreversible destruction.”
Directed by James Wan, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom opens in theaters on Dec. 20.
