Daniel Bruhl shared a new set photo teasing his return as Baron Zemo in Marvel Studios’ The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

On Instagram, Brühl shared a set photo featuring a folding chair with the name “Baron Zemo” emphatically emblazoned on the backrest. The stool is accompanied by a worn copy of veteran filmmaker Sidney Lumet’s Making Movies and what seems to be a bottle of sparkling water on top.

This confirmation means The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will officially introduce a more comic book accurate version of Baron Zemo. That was widely assumed, based on the fact that the Baron Zemo mask and costume for the Disney+ series had previously been revealed and was much more comics-accurate. But the Baron Zemo moniker is now officially confirmed – and indicates Zemo has been busy since fans last saw him. It’s unclear how Baron Zemo will factor into the story of Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which will see Sam Wilson become Captain America after Steve Rogers left the shield to him. No doubt, there’s bad blood between Winter Soldier and Zemo considering Bucky Barnes was a pawn in the villain’s plot to drive a wedge between Captain America and Iron Man.

Baron Zemo is a genius-level strategist best known for his rivalry with Captain America. In the comics, Zemo is a mantle held by two Marvel supervillains, Heinrich and Helmut Zemo, both of whom are descended from a long line of Zeulniz knights and soldiers. Heinrich first came to blows against Steve Rogers when the Star-Spangled Man and his Howling Commandos confronted the Nazi party during World War II. He later created Adhesive X, an unrealistically powerful adhesive that could never be dissolved, and he also formed the Masters of Evil to combat Cap and the Avengers. Helmut later took on the mantle of Baron Zemo and has battled the First Avenger in armed combat many times.

Directed by Kari Skogland, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier stars Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Emily VanCamp, Wyatt Russell and Daniel Brühl and will be available on Disney+ in fall 2020.
