A key X-Men location was spotted on the set of Anthony Mackie’s The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

Twitter user Luke Hatcher shared an image earlier this month from what seemed like a fairly innocuous scene from the upcoming Disney+ show. But the site Murphy’s Multiverse noticed something very interesting in the image: the flag of Madripoor.

It appears that Anthony Mackie’s Falcon will be making his way to Madripoor, an iconic island that has been heavily featured in X-Men comic books. Madripoor was inspired by Singapore, and has been a key location in many X-Men comics. In fact, X-Men character Mystique once attempted to make Madripoor a mutant utopia. Madripoor being officially introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe means that this is our first instance of integration between the Fox and Marvel properties.

The red crescent moon, star, and lion’s head on the wall of the garden is the same image that appears on the flag for the fictional island. First premiering in 1985’s New Mutants #32, the nation is a hotbed of criminal activity and is overrun by supervillains. The locale generally pops up in X-Men stories, with Wolverine usually involved.

Directed by Kari Skogland, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier stars Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Emily VanCamp, Wyatt Russell and Daniel Brühl and will be available on Disney+ in fall 2020.
