The Walking Dead has seen many fan-favorite characters leave over its run, but no one may be missed more than Danai Gurira’s Michonne.

Michonne’s exit in season 10 will come with some major reveals. Katana-wielding warrior Michonne was first introduced in the TWD comic book in issue 19, then made the jump to the TV series in the final episode of season 2 with one of the most memorable introduction scenes in the history of the show.

It was truly a stunning moment seeing a hooded Michonne leading a pair of armless, jawless zombies around on chains like her guard dogs in that season 2 episode, and Danai Gurira’s performance would ultimately live up to that first striking glimpse of the character. Over the years, Michonne developed into one of the leaders of the survivor group, and later became Rick’s lover and the mother of his child. But at some point in season 10, Michonne will bow out of the show, leaving another huge void in a cast that last season lost Rick (Andrew Lincoln), Maggie (Lauren Cohan), Tara (Alanna Masterson), Henry (Matt Lintz) and Enid (Katelyn Nacon).
Danai Gurira has confirmed that the upcoming tenth season will be her last, with showrunner Angela Kang hinting that Michonne’s eventual exit will have major ramifications for the survival horror series.

It remains to be seen when and how Michonne will make her exit from the show, but Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang promises that the departure will come with some major revelations. Speaking to TVLine, Kang said of Michonne’s exit, “There are some things of major importance that we will learn, which have massive consequences.” But Kang assured fans they’ll “also get to showcase good, old-fashioned Michonne being a badass.”

AMC’s The Walking Dead stars Norman Reedus, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride, Josh McDermitt, Christian Serratos, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Nadia Hilker, Dan Fogler, Angel Theory, Lauren Ridloff and Eleanor Matsuura. The series returns for Season 10 on October 6.
