Ricky Gervais, an English stand-up comedian, actor, director, screenwriter and singer, gets a new lease with Netflix. Today, Netflix renewed the British black comedy web television series After Life for season 2.
“I have never had a reaction like this before. It’s been insane. And heartwarming,” said Gervais in a statement. “But now I have to make sure the second season is even better so I’ll probably have to work much harder than usual. Annoying really.”

Starring Ricky Gervais, the show follows the life of Tony Johnson, a journalist who eventually lost the will to live after his wife passes away with breast cancer. The character decides to live long enough to punish the world by saying whatever comes to mind. If things become too much, he will just commit suicide.
Netflix’s Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos provided a statement in regards to how thrilled they are to renew the series for the next season:
“After Life has moved audiences from laughter to tears around the world and we are thrilled to announce that Ricky Gervais will be back with a second season on Netflix. We are so proud to play host to Ricky’s brilliant stand-up comedy, specials, original films and series and join in the joy of the fans with his latest hit.”
Ricky Gervais is the creator and director of the series. After Life season 2 premieres on Netflix in 2020 and will consist of 6 episodes.
