Stranger Things 3

Netflix has released a new Stranger Things Season 3 sneak peek ahead of the season premiere on July 4.

There’s no Upside Down in the latest look at Stranger Things‘ third season. But one of the Netflix show’s villains is most definitely back. The clip showcases summer in Hawkins. It reveals Billy still has that hair-trigger temper when he’s not trying to preen for the ladies lounging around the pool.

Billy seems as aggressive as ever in this clip. He is shown taking out his rage by yelling at a misbehaving swimmer. This is a step in the right direction away from bullying Max and attacking other people (like he did in season 2.) Max is seen in the trailer hanging out with Eleven at the mall and spending time with their friends. So she’s clearly living a happier life now than she was when she joined the show in season 2. No doubt, not having to worry about Billy is a part of that.

The clip makes it look like Stranger Things is headed in a more traditional ’80s direction. But series creators the Duffer Brothers promised in their recent book that the “sense of fun and joy” hides a dark underbelly.

“While it’s our most fun season, it also turns out to be our grossest season,” Ross Duffer teases. “We’re inspired by John Carpenter’s The Thing. We’re inspired by Cronenberg. “We have a little bit of a George Romero vibe in there as well. There are horror movies and horror masters that we haven’t really paid tribute to as much in previous seasons that we are definitely going to get into this season.”
