AMC has released the first few minutes of The Walking Dead season 10 ahead of its premiere tonight.

As the clip opens, a walker is seen emerging from the water an advancing towards the beach, only to be promptly slain by Judith Grimes. From there, we join the rest of the survivors, who appear to be partaking in some sort of training exercise devised to hone their skills when it comes to battling the undead.

The group is seen advancing towards a zombie-housing boat, which is manned by King Ezekiel. Ezekiel releases the walkers in waves, giving the survivors an opportunity to test out their new combat strategy, which involves utilizing shields, bows and arrows, spears and various melee weapons. They move like a well-oiled machine, each warrior knowing how, when and where to strike. The preview ends on a shot of Michonne slaying not one, but three walkers with her trusty katana.

The Walking Dead has seen declining ratings in recent years, but the last season was highly acclaimed. Season 9 ended with the communities united once again, showing a sense of hope despite a number of lost friends at the hands of Alpha. Season 10 promises to be grand, not hiding that the characters appear to be going on the offensive against Alpha and her band of Whisperers. There’s nonetheless an aura of mystery surrounding the story. Will Michonne be the one to win the war, using Negan’s infamous baseball bat? Will Carol get to lay the smackdown on Alpha, as producer Greg Nicotero teases? There are plenty of unanswered questions, but they should begin to be answered soon.

AMC’s The Walking Dead stars Norman Reedus, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride, Josh McDermitt, Christian Serratos, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Nadia Hilker, Dan Fogler, Angel Theory, Lauren Ridloff and Eleanor Matsuura. The series returns for Season 10 tomorrow, Oct. 6.
