Marvel Cinematic Universe stars Paul Bettany and Elizabeth Olsen shared their excitement over their upcoming WandaVision Disney+ series.
In an interview with MTV News at last weekend’s D23 Expo, Bettany spoke about WandaVision and what drew him to the show:
I don’t think that myself or Lizzie have ever been more surprised than when [Marvel Studios head] Kevin [Feige] pitched the idea to us…he pitched this idea for a sort of six-hour movie that I would never in a million years…have thought of.
Bettany called the series “so avant-garde, and weird, and messed up.” Olsen added that the pair “gets to play around with…a totally different genre,” referring to the idea of a “sitcom universe,” as the show has been described since its inception.
The series was announced earlier this year, along with a number of other limited series in development for the Disney+ streaming service. Along with Bettany and Olsen’s WandaVision, MCU fans will see Tom Hiddleston in Loki, Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Jeremy Renner in Hawkeye and a number of other MCU stars providing voices for the animated What If…?. At D23 Expo, Marvel and Disney executives also teased a second phase of shows, which focus on Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight and She-Hulk.
WandaVision is set to premiere in Spring 2021 on Disney+.
