The first poster for Sony’s forthcoming Masters of the Universe live-action movie has been revealed ahead of next week’s Licensing Expo in Las Vegas.
Posted to the Film Stories Twitter, the poster features an entirely gray background. But, at the very top of the poster, is a metallic version of the classic Masters of the Universe logo, complete with some light reflecting off it.
At the bottom, the tagline “The Power Returns” hovers above the release date of March 2021. What this hints at is unknown, but it seems to suggest the return of He-Man himself, or even a new version of the character’s origin.
Details on the film are being kept under wraps, but a character breakdown revealed in 2018 indicated that the story would stick to the original source material and (wisely) not emulate the 1987 movie, which is widely considered to be one of the worst films of the ’80s.
Mattel first introduced the sword-and-sorcery and sci-fi inspired He-Man and the Masters of the Universe as a toy line back in 1982. In 1983, Filmation premiered the Masters of the Universe animated series, which would run original episodes until 1985. The spinoff series She-Ra: Princess of Power debuted in 1985 and ran until 1986.
Directed by Aaron and Adam Nee, Masters of the Universe stars Noah Centineo. The movie releases March 5, 2021.
